Gang Green: Jerry Part 3.
Team Death Rays from Above is at it again! Participating for the third year straight in Dallas’ 24 Hour Video Race, the Death Rays (which includes your truly) have conjured up another mind-bending journey through the consciousness of Jerry the Janitor.
In this episode, the hapless custodian comes eye-to-googly eye with his hallucination-inducing nemesis - the potato. Does Jerry finally accept his fate as a pawn in the plot of the mysterious potato invaders? (No really, I’m asking because I don’t know).
I had loads of fun creating the soundtrack this year with the Realistic MG-1 taking lead with effects from the new Boss RE20, which emulates the old Roland RE-201 Space Echo. We also threw in some vocoder action to give a sci-fi creepiness for the voice of the potato this time around.
Parameters that all teams had to incorporate for this year’s Race included the theme of “Going Green.” Also, everyone must use a fortune cookie as a prop, shoot in or around a closet as a location requirement, and add the line “I don’t know, what do you think?” in their dialog.
Wish us luck at the screening tonight at the Angelika Film Center at Mockingbird Station in Dallas. In past years, I can tell the audience never really knows what to make of us. But it’s all in good fun. Twenty-four hours of delirious, sleepless work with your friends makes it all worthwhile.
Be sure to check out our inaugural effort filmed for the 2010 24 Hour Video Race called Jerry, and the prequel shot a year later for the 2011 Race entitled: The Root Of Memory.
